Vincent Van Gogh ‘La ronde des prisonniers’, (1890). Painted after an
engraving by Gustave Doré (1832–1883)
Prison Walk is an installation after a painting that was done after
an engraving. When Van Gogh had made his painting he had confirmed
with a statement made by Dore. This way the original statement made by
one artist got reinstated in the work of another artist. In case of
this installation we are reinstating the statement made by two great
artists with the means that are available to us today.

Letter from Vincent van Gogh to Theo van Gogh
Cuesmes, July 1880.
“Every deep, genuine affection. Being friends, being brothers, loving, that is what opens the prison, with supreme power, by some magic force. Without these one stays dead. But whenever affection is revived, there life revives. Moreover, the prison is sometimes called prejudice, misunderstanding, fatal ignorance of one thing or another, suspicion, false modesty.http://www.webexhibits.org/vangogh/letter/8/133.htm
